Paul has decades of experience writing interesting and successful music for the Afro-Cuban and Salsa worlds and his music is heard all around the world. In 2025 his arrangements for the classic Azabache album were heard more than 10 million times on various streaming platforms (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). He continues to arrange and compose for Afro-Cuban and salsa music.
Many of his through-composed compositions are impressionistic, atmospheric and moody things that work well for film. He also is known to write lyrics and music in the American Folk tradition. He often collaborates and composes original arrangements with singers.

Paul Lyons can often be found around San Francisco singing and playing guitar and harmonica. He plays original songs, old jazz tunes, cool gems for the 1960s and 70s, protest music and some more originals. It is a one man band that is music for all ages. It works best during the daytime, when the words have a chance to settle into the corners of your mind. Always ALL AGES. Sometimes funny.

Paul, for many years has maintained piano as a “double” and is presently playing piano with Cheo Concepcion – holding down the montunos, finding the groove, keeping the clave.
